I honestly did not think this day would ever happen and when I saw the news (from Deuce), I really didn't immediately believe it.
I was excited to hear the news.
I've been a fan of Anika since she posted her Wild Boy song on YouTube
9 years ago. https://youtu.be/JSmmdxh4KWc?si=UENkE1kXSbI31CEK
I'm a new fan now.
She's phenominal and I'm *very* interested to see and hear what she
plays on Rush songs. I doubt she'll do the Neil Peart thing (massive
kit, tuned percussion, electronics) and she don't really play like Neil
in the first place, but I think whatever she does will be very
interesting and precise and do the songs justice and The Professor
proud.
I wouldn't want to hear someone imitating Neil, that wouldn't feel
right. Someone coming in and adding their own sound to songs that we all
have knit into our bones will be interesting.
It reminds me of Jake E. Lee coming in to replace Randy Rhoads in Ozzy's
band. If they'd gotten someone to try and emulate his style, it wouldn't
sound authentic. Lee said in interviews that he almost felt compelled to
avoid the classic licks he knew that were reminiscent of Randy Rhoads'
playing - and Ozzy got a couple of great albums out of it.
