I've thought about buying a new laptop, as the laptop I currently have
is one I bought in 2014.. I've thought about buying a Framework laptop
- I like their open-source design and that you can repair/upgrade them easily, but they're quite expensive. I might end up buying a more mainstream laptop..

I've been using a Framework 16 for about a year now, and love it. Mine
is a Ryzen-9, 32GB, without the add-on Nvidia graphics module. Not
cheap, but as you said very ugradeable/customizable, and easy to work on
if needed. I added the numeric keypad option as well. Haven't had any trouble with it and it's Linux-friendly. I'd give it a "highly recommended" rating.
... If it weren't for Edison we'd be using computers by candlelight
